Patal Bhuvaneshwar

Patal Bhuvaneshwar Tourist Places

Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave: The earliest reference to the cave of Patal Bhuvaneshwar was made in the Manaskhand Chapter of Skandpurana, elaborately describing the story of Raja Ritupurna, the ancient King of Ayodhya belonging to the Treta Yuga. His encounters with living gods and goddesses inside the cave are part of the rich mythology of Indian traditions.

However, the presence of this mythology can still be felt inside the cave. Strangely, the naturalrocks have taken the shape of the characters of the great Hindu pantheon, as if the gods had left their remnants behind after reposing in the cave. The hood of Sheshnag…the torso of Lord Ganesha with Sastradal Kamal hanging over it…Goddess Bhuvaneshwari standing guard with her weaponry…the cursed Hans (the swan of Lord Brahma) with his head turned…the heavenly tree, the Kalpavriksha…the udders of Kamadhenu…the Jatas (hair locks) of Lord Shiva…the Saptahrishimandal (the Seven Rishis)…the thousand legs of Airavat, the elephant of Lord Indra. It is also believed that this cave is internally connected to the four Abodes (Char Dham).

Patal Bhuvaneshwar Temple: In the heart of the village of Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a temple, dating back to the twelfth century A.D, built by the rulers of Chand and Katyuri dynasties. Most parts of the temple have been renovated, yet the ancient identity is not lost. At the entrance of the main temple are the idols of the two Dwarapalas, Jai and Vijay, standing with their weapons in their hands. The roof of the temple has interesting designs, which need both care and deep study to understand the architecture of that age. A lingam and idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati can be found here. In the premises of the temple, in front of the post office is an impressive statue of Lord Hanuman. Next to it, is the small temple of goddess Chandika.

Haat Kalika Temple, Gangolihaat: 10 kms from the resort, the temple was chosen by Sankaracharya for installation of Mahakali Shaktipeeth. It is believed that the Original Goddes Kalika Mata, which supposed to be in West Bangal , shifted her place form Bangal to Gangolihat.

Avani NGO: The NGO is at a distance of 20 km from the resort located in a village named Tripuradevi. Avani aims to focus on the creation of livelihood opportunities at village level through different levels. These include development and dissemination of appropriate technology in the Kumaon Himalayas. Promotion and preservation of traditional craft of this area.

Shaileshwar, Mukteshwar and Bholeshwar Caves: These are some less explored caves.

Kotmanya: Located at a distance of 29 km from the resort, the research centre has around 22 musk deers. A kilometre trek to Kotmanya is really a stimulating experience.

Village Walks: The resort organizes village walks, the best way to peek into the daily lives of the village people. Enjoy a hot cup of tea or fresh yogurt at a village house.

Treks and Picnics: Enjoy a day's trek or picnic around the area. Come across different varieties of Himalayan birds, flora and fauna while on the walk.
